Most disappointing book of the year?
This year it was "The Love Hypothesis" by Ali Hazelwood, I just distinctly remember not liking the ending at all, and not connecting with the fmc Olive.
What was an underdog book?
Any Jennifer Ann Shore book. I've loved everything I've read by her, they're also perfect books if you're in a reading slump. They're short, sweet, and extremely enjoyable. My personal favorite by her is Perfect Little Flaws I've read it 6 times and would kill for a book set a few years in the future.
A book that surprised you?
Just Another Love Song by Kerry Winfrey, the book was just so sweet, and I resonated with it so much that I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks after I finished. I picked it out on a whim and it's definitely one of my favorites.
Your favorite book couple(s) of the year?
Tessa Cade & Prince Corrick, Rowaelin, Feysand, Manorian, Juliette Ferrars & Aaron Warner, Elsie Hannaway & Jack Smith, Briana Ortiz & Jacob Maddox.
Your favorite female main characters of the year?
This year I have a few mainly fantasy characters, Paedyn Gray, Celaena Sardothien, Manon Blackbeak, Yrene Towers, Feyre Archeron, Tessa Cade, Elsie Hannaway, Juliette Ferrars, Iris Winnow, and Avery Grambs. I have attachments to all of these characters and won't take any criticism on any of them.
Your favorite male main characters of the year?
This is about to be taken over by TOG, but I would say, Rowan Whitethorn, Dorian Hallivard, Chaol Westfall, Fenrys Moonbeam, and Aedion Ashryver. For non-TOG Jack Smith, Kai Azer, Rhysand, Grayson Hawthorne, Aaron Warner, Roman Kitt, and Jason Larsen.
New favorite author you discovered this year?
My top new favorite authors are, Lauren Roberts, Abby Jimenez, Sarah J Maas, Ali Hazelwood, Tahereh Mafi, Jennifer Ann Shore, and Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
What is the happiest book you read this year?
Powerless by Lauren Roberts made me so giddy while reading, even if the ending killed me, I still loved it so much.
The most frustrating book you read this year?
Five Total Strangers by Natalie D. Richards was an extremely frustrating read for me. I thought the concept was so fun, but it was executed poorly, the characters where so flat . I guessed the major plot twist in the first chapter, I finished because I wanted to know if I was right. It was giving a bad version of Five Survive by Holly Jackson.
What is the longest book you read this year?
My longest book this year that I read was Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas at 980 pages.
What is the shortest book you read this year?
My shortest book of the year for me was Fracture Me by Tahereh Mafi at 71 pages.
Your favorite covers of the year?
My favorite covers are Queen of Shadow by Sarah J Maas, Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabriel Zevin, Powerless by Lauren Roberts, Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross and Happy Place by Emily Henry.
A book you haven’t stopped thinking about?
Sorry for all the repeats but Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas, Powerless by Lauren Roberts, Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross, Defy the Night series by Brigid Kemmerer, The Wish by Nicholas Sparks and Just Another Love Song by Kerry Winfrey.
Unpopular book you love?
I didn't love it per se, but I found it enjoyable. Never by Jessa Hastings was widely disliked by my friends and other readers but I didn't understand the hate it got. Was it life changing? No. But it was entertaining.
Lowest rated on Goodreads & highest rated (do you agree)?
My lowest rated book was Never by Jessa Hastings with an average rating of a 3.25, I agree because that was actually my rating for the book.
My highest rated book was Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas with an average rating of a 4.66, personally I gave KOA 4.5 stars, so I agree with the average rating for it.
Fav book quotes of the year?
"My name is Celaena Sardothien," she whispered ", and I will not be afraid." - TOG Series
"I'll love you, to whatever end." - TOG Series
"Mind your mettle." - Defy the Night Series
“I want you, Elsie. All the time. I think of you. All. The. Damn. Time. I’m distracted. I’m crap at work. There is no universe in which I’m letting you go. I want to play it cool, like I’m attracted to you and not obsessed out of my mind, but that’s not where I’m at. I need you to pace us, because wherever this is going…I’m there. I’m already right there.” - Love, Theoretically
Book you read this year that you would re-read?
I would re-read the Defy the Night series by Brigid Kemmerer, the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi, Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas, Perfect Little Flaws by Jennfier Ann Shore (it would be my 7th re-read,) and Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez.
Goodreads reading goal reflection & 2024 reading goal?
This year I've read over 150 books, but I stayed away from books that intimidated me. For example, I've had Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabriel Zevin on my shelf for months but it's literary fiction so I'm definitely nervous to read it. But I for sure want to read more books out of my comfort zone.
My reading goal for 2024 is 100 books, reading over half of my physical TBR, and staying on top of my review posting schedule.
*None of these questions are mine I give all the credit to Destiny Sidwell*
