Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood

4.5⭐️

Jonathan “Jack” Smith Turner, will you make me the happiest woman on earth and marry me. In all seriousness if I could I would pull Jack off the pages of my book and keep him all for myself. Was I scared to read this after not liking the Love Hypothesis that much? Yes. Yes I was. But boy was I wrong now I’m going to read everything this woman has hoping she can give me another Jack. Ali Hazelwoods writing style is very easy to read, and instantly connects you to the characters. One thing I don't understand about her writing is why all her fmc’s love cheese. It's good but nothing to obsess over. Anyways on the review!

Love Theoretically follows our main character Elsie Hannaway who just recently received her P.H.D. and works as an adjunct at two different colleges. For those who don’t know an adjunct is not a full time professor they teach where there is need, and if the budget allows it. Elsie has type one diabetes and since her current profession doesn’t give her health insurance, she also works as a fake girlfriend on the side. Elsie has been posing as Greg’s fake girlfriend for the past 6 months. No one actually knows any truthful information about her for confidentiality reasons. After working as an adjunct Elsie gets the opportunity of a lifetime to apply to work as a professor at MIT. But little does she know her fake-boyfriend's older brother Jack, stands between her and the position.

“Are you doing it with me too?”

“What?No! I can’t even read you!”

“Are you turning yourself into what I want? Is that why whenever I’m with you, I…”

This book was so good, I read it in  a day. I found all the science politics extremely interesting. I’m proud to say 75% of it didn’t just go over my head, leaving me confused. The students Elsie had to deal with had me laughing out loud, the questions they asked her were so outlandish. But the real reason most people probably want to read this is for the romance. The romance in this book was so good. I was giggling, rolling around on my bed (I only fell out a couple of times,) shrieking in the middle of the night. As much as I wish I could say her job hunting was my favorite part, it was most definitely the romance. The banter between the two of them was spectacular, the chemistry was electric, they had some of the sweetest moments I’ve read about in a while.

“Not everyone wants to be someone else Elsie, and I definitely don’t want you to be George.”

“And why is that?”

“It would be a waste.”

“A waste of what?”

“Of you.”

Jack- This man reads Elsie so well. I have never seen mmc read the fmc so well. He pays so much attention to the little things she does. He knows the ratio to make her hot chocolate so that it doesn’t give her any trouble with her diabetes. Not only that but he wants to know how to use her pod just in case something happens.  I’m sorry but can you see me swooning over here. Jack can see through whatever facade Elsie puts up. He truly wants the best for her, and pushes her to be her best every step of the way. My favorite part about him was that from the very beginning you can tell he’s such a simp for her. Gosh I hope he accepts my marriage proposal because if not I’ll be depressed until the end of time.

“I want you Elsie. All the time. I think of you. All. The. Damn. Time. I’m distracted. I’m crap at work. There is no universe in which I’m letting you go. I want to play it cool, like I’m attracted to you and not obsessed out of my mind, but that’s not where I’m at. I need you to pace us, because wherever this is going…I’m there. I’m already right there.”

Please give me a moment to squeal over this quote… Okay. I’m good now.

Elsie- Listen I love Elsie but she is a chronic people pleaser. One of my favorite things about her is that she worked on getting better with her people's pleaser tendencies. She’s funny, smart and so damn resilient. She puts others' needs before her own, which can be a problem at times but she cares so much. Her heart is so big and would take a bullet for someone she loves. The jokes she was making had me laughing as well. Overall I love her to bits.

"You could be my entire world. If you let me."

"I think I will."

Overall I loved this book, and I would recommend it. But the reason it wasn’t 5 stars is for two reasons:

-The 3rd act breakup could have been resolved right there and then by talking it out

-I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending and epilogue. If she was going to end it like she might as well  have given us an epilogue with their kids and future dog.

I hope If you read this you like it as much as I did. Thank you for reading 💗
