Five Survive By: Holly Jackson

“What if I said you were the right people, in the right place at exactly the right time.”

Summary:

The brand-new unmissable crime thriller from Holly Jackson, best-selling, award-winning author of the Good Girl’s Guide to Murder trilogy.

Eight hours.

Six friends.

One sniper . . .

Eighteen-year-old Red and her friends are on a road trip in an RV, heading to the beach for Spring Break. It’s a long drive but spirits are high. Until the RV breaks down in the middle of nowhere. There’s no mobile phone reception and nobody around to help. And as the wheels are shot out, one by one, the friends realize that this is no accident. There’s a sniper out there in the dark watching them and he knows exactly who they are. One of the group has a secret that the sniper is willing to kill for.

A game of cat-and-mouse plays out as the group desperately tries to get help and to work out which member of the group is the target. Buried secrets are forced to light in the cramped, claustrophobic setting of the RV, and tensions within the group will reach deadly levels. Not everyone will survive the night.

Review:

5 stars-

I say this with 100% certainty that this is my all-time favorite mystery/thriller. I typically find the thrilling aspect of a thriller quite dull and predictable. Five Survive was to put it simply it was the complete opposite. First of all Holly Jackson's writing is phenomenal she weaves a detailed plot into a fast paced storyline. It keeps you hooked from the very beginning, I read this at night which definitely added to the ambiance. I couldn't put it down I started at 9pm and finish at 2am. It had my heart racing, my legs shaking, and my soul vacating the premise.

The story follows 6 teens on a spring break road trip. They're all in an RV driving down to their vacation spot when things start to go array. Once they realize their trapped it becomes all too clear that this is no accident, someone in the RV is hiding something that the sniper is willing to kill for.

In my not so quiet opinion If I were in the whole:

"IM TRAPPED IN AN RV AND A SNIPER IS TRYING TO KILL ME!!"

I 100% die of a heart attack as soon as the sniper makes another move. I like to think I'm a strong person mentally at least. Even though I do consider flipping pages on a book as a finger work out, I don't think it would help me in this situation. Neither would a razor I'm looking at you razor dude.

But if in a cruel twist of fate a passenger of the RV brings me back to life. It's every man for himself. Like I didn't ask you to revive me, I was relieved to be out of the situation so now you can figure that out by yourself. In an ideal world I would be a complete badass and fight off the sniper but the probability of that happening is slim.

This was such a pleasant surprise and I encourage anybody looking for a gripping thriller to read this. If you do let me know what you think.
